The Throw Down - Pt. 3

Anticipation is at an all time high for everyone, not just the finalists. The competition server on Discord was abuzz with lots of chatter. The Grove is celebrating their anniversary with a formal event that has live singers from around the grid performing for all in attendance.

The time has come...here is the announcement...I think everyone stopped breathing as the name of the winner was announced. Hell @#$%in' yea my whimsically reEMaginative friend Babe Whimsy won!!! To partially quote her Facebook post, she "bloody did it!" We both got together afterwards and celebrated and cried and laughed. I am so very proud of her.

These questions were asked by family, friends and peers throughout the competition process and since its conclusion.

Q: Is this the first design competition you've ever entered?

A: Yes.

Q: Why this competition and not others?

A: To be honest, I had not really heard of many others and over the years in SL, I have come to see competitions as popularity contests. The structure of this one was vastly different.

Q: Will you enter again next year?

A: Hell no!

Q: Will you enter any other competitions? Why?

A: Nope! Anyone that knows me knows that I am an ambivert and a loner. Being in competitions such as this is contrary to the lifestyle of a loner and becomes taxing.

Q: Did you gain anything from your journey in this competition?

A: Yes, although I am a loner, I won't turn away from good friendships and that was my gain.

Q: What were some of the lessons you learned in this competition as a designer?

A: None. I love to learn and had hoped to learn new things to improve my skillset. That didn't happen.

Q: If you could change anything about the competition, what would that be?

A: First I would do the lottery process using a scripted random avatar picker in world. Second, all competitors would receive a copy of their scorecards (with judges names omitted) along with the comments from the judges so that we can reflect back like a report card. A verbal rundown and overview is useless weeks later when it is no longer fresh. I pride myself on having a great almost eidetic memory. However, when real life kicks in and you are lacking sleep due to real responsibilities remembering every single comment from the judges during the semi-finals round a month earlier becomes a poor usage of valuable time that could be used in more productive ways.

Q: I know you helped out several of your competitors in one way or another throughout the whole competition. Do you regret doing that?

A: Absolutely not! If we sell our souls for a competition then we lack character. I will not stand idly by and not help a person when I know good and well I have the answer they need. It's not me, never has been me and will never be me especially for a competition. I have to be able to face the woman in the mirror and my Father in Heaven. The bible book of Matthew in chapter/verses 25:24-40 teaches us, "Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

I live my life daily by these scriptural words.

Q: Would you be willing to be a judge in future competitions?

A: No way. I don't want judging another person's hard work on my heart. I feel it would be too heavy for me because of my personality.

Q: Would you be willing to be a sponsor in future competitions?

A: Definitely I would love to do that!

Join me in celebrating my friend...

On to the next project...
